The name of Marcasite is derived from an Arabic word which is used for Pyrite and which has sparkles all around. The beads of this talisman seem quite sober but the healing properties of this charm call the awareness for themselves. This gemstone is made up of iron sulphides. It is mostly confused with the other types of minerals.
In the Middle Ages, marcasite and pyrite were both used as medicines. It has a beautiful glittering metallic luster. Marcasite is well composed of the calming effect which attracts the wealth and inspires the creativity of the beings. After wearing this charm, the owner gets free from his feelings of over sensitiveness, hopelessness and assists him to re-calibrate, reincarnation, release, re-design and re-access. It proves to be gentle towards its wearer and makes him balanced and grounded.
In magic, Marcasite, a glorious talisman is an emblem of expressiveness, wisdom, courage and equity. It allows the owner to enter into the conscious mind. Simply by making the personal power of the wearer stronger, Marcasite is recognized as a happy family life charm and also built the harmonized soul.
Marcasite is known as a brittle stone which can crumble in easy way and is quite lighter than that of pyrite. It reveals yellow hue and somewhat brassy texture. The crystal habit of this crystal is twinned. This distinctive gem piece occurs when its surface forms like the head of hen.
In Victorian times, marcasite was popular for jewelry and today, is still used for the same purpose.. The two are shaped differently, and have different structures within, however they share the same chemistry. Until 1814, the two stones were constantly confused. However a French mineralogist, RJ Hauy finally was able to figure out a way to distinguish the two. Marcasite is actually paler in color than pyrite, and is referred to as white iron pyrite. Marcasite is also more rare than pyrite.

Using your talisman
Absolutely! These pieces are designed for surfers, swimmers, and alike. They can be worn in the shower, and/or when swimming – and the colours will not fade. Our talismans have proven their durability in our rainforest home against the elements of sun, water, humidity, and heat.
Our creations are handcrafted using the highest quality waxed strings on earth. They are designed to be long lasting and with the right care, they will maintain their original shape and colour for years to come. Platypus Dreaming talismans are water resistant and feel very organic when worn against the skin. All stones have different hardness levels so please be gentle and treat them with the right level of care. They are strong but if you bang, knock or drop on hard surface they can break. Each piece is designed with longevity in mind. We only use silver and/or stainless-steel beads which will never rust or loose colour.
Talismans made from wood need extra care because they’re made from organic materials that can be impacted negatively by the environment. They require an extra level of gentleness that our crystal talismans do not. They have been constructed to last and will not crack, dent or scratch at the slightest touch. At the same time, you should take care when wearing them on a daily basis. Wood talismans are water resistant, not waterproof! They have a thick coating to protect them, yet they’re still made of an organic material that will soak up water when immersed for too long. Please take off when you have a shower and swimming and during heavy work and sport activities.
We recommend a gentle rinse under fresh water – preferably rain or river water. Moonlight also works beautifully, as does smoke, i.e. sage, or Palo Santo. You can also use other crystals to energetically clear your talisman, such as an amethyst cluster. Some crystal talismans benefit from being cleaned regularly as they are carriers of energy. Others, such as moldavite, are independent beings and do not need cleansing.
